The total distance covered is also about fourteen kilometers.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>The Pico de Orizaba<\/strong> <strong>Orizaba is objectively harder,<\/strong>as it requires overcoming a greater vertical gain at a higher altitude. In addition, the last five hundred meters of the Jamapa Glacier <strong>are inevitably uphill.<\/strong> As veteran Joaqu\u00edn Canchola of Tlachichuca rightly says, \"'El Pico is a madriza!\" (climbing Pico is like taking a beating!).<\/p><p>However, to assess the overall difficulty or hardness, another fundamental factor arises: which descent is harder? After all, <strong>every mountain must be descended,<\/strong> once the summit has been reached.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>On the other, on Iztaccihuatl, one must traverse the Ayoloco Glacier on a <strong>combination<\/strong> of ascending, descending, and even horizontal terrain (the well-known \"Belly\" of the glacier).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ed6db41 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ed6db41\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-b0efcde\" data-id=\"b0efcde\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1e9d928 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1e9d928\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The answer is debatable, but many of us maintain that <strong>Pico de Orizaba is easier to descend than Iztaccihuatl.<\/strong> Why? Because the descent is a steady downhill, over relatively easy terrain, while Iztaccihuatl requires several partial ascents, such as Monte de Venus or La Rodilla, and semi-technical terrain around the Cruz de Guadalajara (4,900 meters). In general, <strong>the descent of Pico was faster and less strenuous<\/strong> than that of Mujer Blanca.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>In addition, there are other factors to take into account. For example, the beginning of the Portillos route <strong>route is less steep<\/strong> than its equivalent on the Pico, which allows us to dose the effort. <strong>The state of the terrain,<\/strong> depending on the weather, is another factor that can make the ascent and descent of El Laberinto tremendously easy or highly complicated.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><em><strong>And you, fellow mountaineer, what do you think?
